Case Study Modular Building Foundations in Derby: Screw Piles Levelled to 2 mm ApplicationModular building LocationDerby, United Kingdom PilesHelical, Ø76.1 mm double helix Pile length4 m and 6 m ToleranceLevels to 2 mm In Derby, UKHelix installed Finnish-made helical piles for a new modular building. The piles, a 76R double-helix design taken down to 4 and 6 metres, were supplied as bespoke units with matching pile caps to suit the building. Modular buildings are unforgiving: the units arrive ready-made, so the foundations have to be spot on or nothing lines up. That meant constant measuring and checking for square, and holding the levels across the pile caps to within 2 millimetres. The installation torque was proven on every pile to confirm it would carry its share of the load. UKHelix handed over a set of screw pile foundations levelled and aligned to the tight tolerance a modular build demands, ready for the units to be set straight on top.
